Whether you’re nervous about needles, interested in how acupuncture works, or simply want to be sure we are the right fit for one another, fill out the form with your information. I will respond within 2-3 days with more details.
As you would any doctor’s appointment, plan to arrive about 15 minutes early to settle in and fill out your forms. You’ll be invited to share more details about your condition(s) and overall health in the treatment room. Once I check your pulse and your tongue, you will lie down on the treatment table. I’ll insert tiny, sterilized needles into each respective acupuncture point that will be left in place for 20-25 minutes before being removed.
Acupuncture is normally a gentle treatment, but some patients might feel a slight pricking sensation when the needle is inserted. Once the needles are in, the ‘qi’ sensation varies. While some people won’t feel much, others will feel an electric sensation where the needle is. Feeling relaxed and even falling asleep during your treatment is not unusual. Since the acupuncture needles are extremely delicate and fine (only the width of 2-3 hair strands), there will be a slight sensation but not a jabbing or poking feeling. The needles are so thin that it would take 10-20 bundled together to be the same width as a hypodermic needle used for getting your flu shot.
Depending on your treatment, your appointment can range from 30-90 minutes. When you schedule your appointment, you’ll see the estimated duration.
We understand that sometimes you might need to cancel, so we ask that you do so at least 24 hours prior to your appointment to avoid a cancellation fee. No-shows or late cancellations will be charged.
Stay hydrated with plenty of water or herbal teas. Avoid alcohol, coffee, and other caffeine-rich drinks as your body releases toxins. Stay warm, avoid the cold, get plenty of rest, and go light on exercise for 1-2 days after your appointment.
Everyone is unique, as are the conditions and health concerns we treat. A typical treatment may span 12 sessions, but you will likely notice significant change after 4-6 appointments. If your condition is chronic or hasn’t been treated for a long time, it may take longer for acupuncture to take effect. Initially, you may need 1-3 treatment sessions per week, then gradually reduce to once or twice a month.
